Free Alcohol Addiction Help in Charlotte, NC

Looking for alcohol addiction help in Charlotte? Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Our meetings are completely free - no insurance required, no fees, no cost for alcohol addiction treatment support.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety through our proven 12-step program.

AA Measures Success Differently Than Medical Treatment

AA has no opinion on inpatient treatment, and many people find it helpful in the short term. However, if you've tried traditional treatment programs before and they didn't work long-term, here's why AA's approach to success is different:

  • Lifetime Contented Sobriety - AA measures success in years and decades, not just 12-month recidivism rates
  • Long-term Effectiveness - We help people stay sober for the rest of their lives, not just through short-term treatment
  • Ongoing Fellowship - Lifelong support system versus time-limited treatment programs
  • No Medical Solution - While psychiatry and therapy can help some, alcoholism has no effective medical treatments with AA's long-term outcomes
  • Completely Free - No insurance, payments, or financial barriers to lifelong recovery

If this different approach appeals to you, you might benefit from attending a meeting or two to see if AA is right for you.

"Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path. Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program, usually those who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves."

What We Do

We study the AA program of recovery as outlined in the basic text of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, which contains the complete instructions on how to recover from alcoholism. This is the original program that has helped millions achieve and maintain sobriety since 1939.

Study the Big Book

We read and discuss the basic text of AA, which contains the complete instructions on how to recover from alcoholism.

Work with Sponsors

Sponsorship is a one-on-one relationship with someone who has successfully worked the program. A sponsor provides directions on how to recover based on their own experience and the directions in the Big Book. They guide you through the steps as they're written and share what worked for them in their recovery.

Work the Steps

We actively work through the Twelve Steps as they are laid out in the Big Book.

Have a Home Group

We encourage members to have a home group - a regular meeting where you belong, contribute, and take responsibility. This provides stability and connection in recovery.

Do Service Work

Service work is essential to recovery. We help set up meetings, make coffee, greet newcomers, and support the group. Through service, we stay connected and help others find recovery.

Build Fellowship

We support each other as an AA fellowship committed to sobriety and helping other alcoholics achieve recovery.

Who Can Attend Our Meetings

Anyone with a desire to stop drinking is welcome. You don't need to be "ready" or have it all figured out. The Big Book tells us that no one is too far gone if they have the capacity to be honest with themselves. We have seen the program work for people from all walks of life in the Charlotte area, regardless of their circumstances or how hopeless their situation may seem.

No cost, no insurance required, no judgment. Come as you are.
